In a unanimous vote Tuesday, the Statesboro city council voted to continue with the employee furlough program through the first fiscal of quarter of 2010, which ends Sept. 30.
Outgoing Georgia Southern University President Bruce Grube and wife Kathryn preside over their last annual Watermelon Cutting on campus Tuesday. According to Georgia Southern's Web site, the traditional event began with the late university President Zach Henderson in 1948.
Someone broke into the Bulloch County Magistrate Court building over the weekend, taking an undisclosed amount of cash. Statesboro Police Chief Stan York feels the burglary could be linked to three other break-ins at county offices over the past few months.

The Statesboro City Council will meet this morning to decide whether or not to continue the city employee's furlough plan through the end of September.
During the 2007-2008 school year, the Bulloch County public schools decided to make better use of the 'technological revolution' in the classrooms, and created the position of Instructional Technology Specialist. The teachers needed help understanding 'computerese,' and it would be this person's responsibility to give it.
