Bulloch County Sheriff's deputies, assisting the Georgia Department of Revenue, helped close down a local "lounge" and arrested three for illegal alcohol sales.
Georgia Commissioner of Labor Michael Thurmond spoke at Tuesday's Statesboro-Bulloch County Chamber of Commerce Speakers Luncheon at the Quality Inn and Suites. Thurmond told the audience it was hard to find good news in Georgia's 9.7 percent unemployment rate, but he has noticed a slowing in state residents losing their jobs. He also praised Georgia Southern as a vital part of Bulloch's economy. U.S. Senator Johnny Isakson will be the next Chamber luncheon speaker in August at the Forest Heights Country Club.
Every school in the Bulloch County Public School system has intervention specialists, but only Brooklet Elementary School has "the Two Julies" - Julie NeSmith and Julie Chambers. According to Brooklet principal Marlin Baker, "The faculty here at BES considers the 'Two Julies' to be extremely important to the success of our school."
Georgia Bureau of Investigations agents are still awaiting toxicology test results regarding a man who allegedly hanged himself in the Bulloch County Jail in May.
