Ever since the new Portal Elementary school opened some 10 years ago the school has been kept virtually spotless. According to Principal Paul Hudson, much of that credit goes to his head custodian Shirley Jones.

A man who escaped from the Bryan County Jail stabbed a man and stole his truck, and ended up behind bars again after a high speed chase through Bulloch County Thursday morning.
The blue and white of Georgia Southern will "go green" on Monday as the university seeks to "relamp" the entire campus. Starting Monday, a team of GSU students will exchange traditional incandescent bulbs with new compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) in office, desk and accent fixtures in 19 different campus buildings. It's the first initiative of its kind in the University System of Georgia.
