The community is invited to the Festival of Trees, Georgia Southern University's new holiday celebration that begins Monday. A week-long wonderland of decorated trees, wreaths and gingerbread houses is put on by the Continuing Education Center in the Nessmith-Lane Continuing Education Building.
After three years of investigation, hundreds of motions filed, evidence logged and other work leading up to a high-profile murder trial, the last of three defendants waited until the day after his jury was selected to change a "not guilty" plea to guilty.

Lt. Col. Tom Bright is building a team at the Statesboro Armory. Bright is commander of the 48th Brigade Special Troops Battalion that has its headquarters at the Armory. The brigade is preparing for a 10-month mission in Afghanistan beginning in mid-2009.
A Hagan man was charged with murdering his mother Tuesday and Georgia Bureau of Investigation agents are seeking answers regarding the murder of a man whose body was found in his Pembroke home Monday.
Statesboro and Bulloch County will get a "world view" Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. during the area's Fourth Annual International Festival.

The cafeteria was full Monday night during the Portal Middle-High School Council meeting. Many citizens showed up to voice concern that plans for a new middle-high school may not include a new gymnasium, but others praised the Bulloch County Board of Education for budgeting a new school only a few years after board members considered closing the school.
A murder trial slated to begin Monday was canceled after a man charged in the double homicide entered a guilty plea.
Judge Gary L. Mikell will be the keynote speaker for Tuesday's Veteran's Day Recognition event at the Emma Kelly Theater at 11 a.m. The event is sponsored by the Averitt Center for the Arts and American Legion Dexter Post 90 to honor all who have served or are serving the United States during a time of war.
