Brooks Keel named GSU president

The Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia named Dr. Brooks A. Keel Monday as the 12th president of Georgia Southern University. Keel is vice chancellor for research and economic development and professor of biological sciences, Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge.

Arnold Ray Akins, a local legend in the law enforcement world and former sheriff of Bulloch County, died Saturday morning after an extended illness at the Tattnall Community Hospital in Reidsville.

A Peak honor
