City terminates positions of police, fire chief

Following a City Council directive to close a $425,000 budget shortfall without raising property taxes, Statesboro City Manager Shane Haynes announced Thursday the elimination of six positions from the police and fire departments, including the termination of Police Chief Stan York and Fire Chief Dennis Merrifield.

Eye care at the Hearts and Hands Clinic

An eye clinic is being held at the Sons of Light Fellowship Baptist Church, which houses the Hearts and Hands Clinic. Eye services will be available at the Hearts and Hands Clinic every other month. Sex offender charged with sexual battery

A registered sex offender was arrested Saturday after a woman said he grabbed her inappropriately. Bulloch County Sheriff's deputies arrested Deontray Antwone Lewis, 29, of Lundy Trailer Park, on charges of sexual battery.

A singular honor for SEB student

A sophomore at Southeast Bulloch High School was selected recently as Bulloch County's only representative in the Governor's Honors Program. Taylor Burroughs is one of 700 Georgia students that will participate in the six-week program being held this year at Valdosta State University.
