GOP Gubernatorial Debate

Five of the seven announced Republican candidates who are vying to replace Gov. Sonny Perdue attended the Statesboro Republican Primary Gubernatorial debate held at Statesboro High School on May 7. Former U.S. Congressman Nathan Deal, former Georgia Senate president Eric Johnson, Insurance Commissioner John Oxendine, businessman and former gubernatorial candidate Ray McBerry and State Senator Jeff Chapman from Brunswick all participated in the event, while former secretary of state Karen Handel declined to appear on the stage with McBerry.

BOE votes to demolish old gym at Portal

After tabling a motion to demolish the old Portal Middle/High School gymnasium at the May 12 Bulloch County School Board meeting, members voted unanimously Thursday to proceed with a plan to tear down the gym.

Georgia Southern University Museum Director Dr. Brent Tharp will share the history of the holiday Monday as keynote speaker for the Memorial Day Program held at Emma Kelly Theater. Getting to know the Ogeechee

The Ogeechee River Basin provides resources to 5,540 square miles of wildlife, wetlands and farms, many of which are located in the Bulloch County area. In an attempt to show off the basin, while educating participants about preservation at the same time, the Ogeechee Riverkeeper just announced its annual series of paddle tours for the summer.
