Three of five candidates running for the U.S. Senate Democratic Primary focused on energy and money Tuesday during a debate sponsored by the Statesboro Herald and Ogeechee Technical College.
Georgia Southern University President Bruce Grube and his wife, Kathryn, will kick off the summer season with the University's 61st ceremonial watermelon cutting on Tuesday, July 8. The watermelon cuttings are held every Tuesday and Thursday throughout the month of July.
The Statesboro Herald, in cooperation with Ogeechee Technical College, is sponsoring its third debate of the primary season as the Republican candidates for U.S. House District 12 discuss the issues at OTC's Joseph E. Kennedy Building auditorium Friday, July 11 at 7 p.m.

It's still a mystery how a pool of mercury appeared on a local apartment's back porch, but the apartment and those surrounding it were cleared of danger Thursday and the sizable amount of liquid metal was removed.
No one seems to have any answers regarding a large pool of mercury found late Tuesday at a Cypress Villas apartment.
