Britt: Why reinstate McCorkle?

In the middle of a motion during Tuesday night's Statesboro City Council meeting, Councilman Will Britt asked council members to address their decision to rehire former City Clerk Judy McCorkle, drawing heated comments from other councilmen.

The council was preparing to vote on an item after a motion was made when Britt abruptly changed the subject, bringing up citizens' concern for City Manager Shane Haynes and controversy surrounding McCorkle's rehiring.

County plans no tax hikes

No tax hikes and a balanced budget brought words of praise Tuesday as Bulloch County Commissioners unanimously approved the FY 2010 work plan and general appropriations budget. Tax payers won't see a rise in the millage rate, although, some home owners will see a higher bill due to state government cutting funding of the Homeowner's Tax Exemption.

Celebrating U.S. Army’s 234th birthday

Georgia Southern's ROTC commander Lt. Col. George Fredrick led a two-centuries old tradition Monday with the observance of the Army's birthday. According to tradition, the first pieces of cake were given to the oldest veteran and the youngest cadet attending the ceremony. The observance was held inside Georgia Southern's Student Union.
