Day two of Serna trial - witnesses testify, attorney suggests drug demonstration

A Georgia Southern University associate professor accused of aggravated sodomy took the stand Tuesday during the second day of trial. Dr. Juan Serna denied forcing himself on a male student, stating the sex was consensual, and shocked prosecutors when he agreed to sniff a drug he admitted using during the sexual encounter that took place in April, 2006.

Early voting begins in Statesboro

Monday was the first day of early voting for the Presidential primaries and traffic at the Bulloch County courthouse was steady. By noon, 24 people had cast their vote and by 4 p.m., another 90 had cast ballots, totaling 114 for the day, with another hour remaining.

Statesboro receives wireless network grant

Statesboro is one step closer to having wireless Internet throughout the city now that it has been awarded a grant from the Wireless Communities Georgia (WCG) program. Governor Sonny Perdue announced Wednesday that Statesboro was selected to receive $323,298 for a city wide WiMAX wireless network.
