Blimp passes over Statesboro Wednesday during 3,000 mile journey

It wasn't a bird, plane nor even Superman flying over Statesboro Wednesday morning. But if you looked up in the sky about 10:45 a.m., you would have seen the AVICTA Complete Cotton Blimp floating over the Boro and Bulloch County as part of its blimp tour of the Cotton Belt. The tour began Feb. 29 at the Mid-South Farm & Gin Show in Memphis, Tenn. The 128-foot blimp will travel more than 3,000 miles over 10 states until the end of May.

"A Life Done Right: The Living Legacy of Erk Russell" play celebrates the enduring impact of legendary Georgia Southern University football coach Erk Russell. Based largely on oral histories that are being collected from people who were acquaintances of the late coach, the play is a collaboration between the Averitt Center and the Department of Communication Arts.

City partners with Fire Corps team

City council unanimously agreed Tuesday to jointly fund a mobile unit designed to support the victims of a fire tragedy immediately after fire professionals are called to an emergency. Working in conjunction with Fire Corps, a new volunteer and donation sponsored arm of the Statesboro Fire Department, the city will pay for on-going expenses including insurance, fuel-costs and maintenance.
