ArtsFest 2016

Saturday's 34th annual ArtsFest on Georgia Southern University's Sweetheart Circle - hosted for the first time by the Statesboro-Bulloch County Parks and Recreation Department, with a lot of help from friends - continued many traditional attractions but also included some new twists. Art stops offered painting with brushes and fingers, clay and sand art activities and digital art for mobile devices.

Local ‘Youth Heroes’ honored

Twelve middle and high school students from southeast Georgia were recognized Friday by the American Red Cross of Southeast and Coastal Georgia as Youth Heroes. Superior Court judge race tops $100K

The three candidates for the available Superior Court judgeship in the Ogeechee Judicial Circuit had amassed, and partly spent, almost $85,000 for their campaigns as of March 31. And comments from candidates and reports of more recent major contributions indicate that the cash committed to race has now surpassed $100,000.

Relay for Life raises money, fun and awareness

Lori Wiggins, a cancer survivor since 2001, raised almost $12,000 all by herself this year for cancer research and awareness. She was one of hundreds of cancer survivors and thousands of others at the Kiwanis Ogeechee Fairgrounds Friday night, participating in the 2016 Relay for Life- Bulloch County fundraiser for the American Cancer Society.
