City officials try to model parking ordinances after other cities

County Commissioner Bill Smith retires

After 14 years of budgets, zoning issues, road complaints, and exciting new county projects, Bill Smith stepped down from the Bulloch County Commission. Tuesday Smith was honored with a reception just before his successor Robert Rushing took over the reins by participating in his first commission meeting.

The drop-in reception from 4-6 p.m. Tuesday in the community room at the Bulloch County Annex was open to the public. Refreshments were served and Smith was presented with a special gift from the commission.

Two teens taken into custody after robbery

Statesboro Police, responding to a call from Bulloch County Central 911, met with a man who said two juveniles robbed him of $14 and a cell phone. Within minutes Advanced Patrol Officer John Jones took the two juveniles into custody, charging them with strong arm robbery, battery, false imprisonment and unruly juvenile before taking them to jail.

Three area churches burglarized

Bulloch County Sheriff's investigators are teaming up with officers from other counties to solve a rash of church burglaries in Southeast Georgia. Three area churches were victimized recently, said Bulloch County Sheriff's Chief Deputy Gene McDaniel.
