NeighborWorks America Works to Thwart Foreclosure Rescue” Scams

WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 02, 2009-- Today NeighborWorks(R) America announced that it filed two trademark complaints with online search engines in an attempt to protect consumers from falling prey to foreclosure rescue scams. The trademark complaints filed by NeighborWorks sought to remove online ads paid for by so-called mortgage rescue companies that used the NeighborWorks name and logo and offered foreclosure help for a fee. The companies have no affiliation with NeighborWorks.

$2.4M awarded in wrongful death

A Bulloch County jury awarded about $2.4 million Wednesday to the wife of a man killed in a log truck accident in Jan. 2007. Georgia State Patrol investigators determined the accident was caused when a Bulloch County Sheriff's captain rear-ended another car, resulting in a four-car crash.

Bid for Portal school $1.5M over budget

The lowest bid received for the new Portal Middle/High School construction project came in about $1.5 million over budget, but Bulloch County Assistant Superintendent Charles Wilson believes the school system will find a way to secure the extra cash in order to include a gymnasium in the construction.
