Citizens group challenges highest number of voter registrations in state history

Officials in the Georgia Secretary of State's office said Wednesday they had never seen the scope of the complaint filed Monday challenging the residency of about 840 voter registrations submitted in Statesboro. The challenges were filed by a local group calling themselves Statesboro Citizens for Good Government.

Voting goes smoothly Tuesday in Statesboro

About 1,000 Statesboro voters came out to the polls Tuesday to decide council races in Districts 2, 3 and 5 The polls opened at 7 a.m. and closed shortly after 7 p.m. when the final ballots were cast.

Brother and sister team up to lose more than 100 pounds

The sibling tandem of Keely and Kyle NeSmith, of Statesboro, were named second place winners of Weight Watchers "2007 Inspiring Stories of the Year." Chosen from over 1,700 entries around the country, they were awarded with American Express gift certificates and Weight Watchers products. Combined, they lost 105 pounds over a six to eight month period.

Register considers alcohol sales

The Town of Register has called for a referendum to determine if package sales of distilled spirits - liquor - will be allowed in the city limits. The vote is scheduled for Nov. 6 and requires a simple majority in order to pass.
