The traditional Holiday Lighting of Sweetheart Circle attracted students and faculty of Georgia Southern university as well as community members as president Bruce Grube and his wife, Kathryn, flipped the switch to illuminate the grounds.

Annual Pumpkin Parade marches through Brooklet

Students from Brooklet Elementary School dressed in Halloween costumes based on different themes during Friday's 13th Annual Pumpkin Parade. The children then marched through downtown Brooklet before a crowd of adoring parents and parade lovers.

Splash in the Boro water aerobics instructor Beth Sands, bottom left, looks up at the newly inflated dome over the competition and wading pools Wednesday at Mill Creek Park. The bubble dome is put up to allow use of the pools during the the cold weather months.

GSU students artistically encourage others to vote

Graphic design students in the Betty Foy Sanders Department of Art recently created nonpartisan election posters to promote student participation in the 2008 presidential election. The posters are on display at the Center for Art & Theatre now through Oct. 30. A reception for the artists is set for Friday from 7-9 p.m. at the Center and the public is invited. Ducks for Diabetes race at Splash in the Boro

The Ducks for Diabetes race was held at Splash in the Boro Tuesday. Rubber duckies raced around the lazy river at the water park. The event benefits the American Diabetes Association. According to Broni Gainous, marketing director for the Statesboro-Bulloch County Recreation Department and Splash in the Boro, 141 ducks were sold for this year's fifth annual event, which benefits the American Diabetes Association.

British Back to School soccer camp held at Mill Creek

Kids had a blast scrimmaging at the British Back To School soccer camp Tuesday at Mill Creek Regional Park. Three soccer coaches from England are in Statesboro all week teaching the game they call futbol to about 50 campers. The British camp has come to Statesboro the past few years. It is run by Challenger Sports, which operates 1,800 British soccer camps yearly in the U.S. and Canada, teaching more than 90,000 children.
