The Statesboro Bulloch County Parks and Recreation Department kicked off baseball season with their Swing into Spring celebration Friday despite threatening weather. A slight drizzle in the afternoon had many wondering if the event would be cancelled altogether, but the rain ceased minutes before opening pitches and it was business as usual for the annual event.

Former University of Georgia head football coach Vince Dooley greets Katie Newton, 6, and and brother Cleve, 10, of Millen during an appearance at Statesboro Mall Monday. Dooley, who was football coach for the Dogs from 1964 through 1988 and athletics director until 2003, was in Statesboro to autograph copies of his books.
