Man arrested for taking 'substantial amount' of money from South Main Street residence

Statesboro Police arrested a man Tuesday they said entered a South Main Street residence through a window and took a "large amount of money." Capt. L. C. Williams said David Frederick McGill,34, Parker Apartments, is charged with burglary after evidence collected during an investigation by Det. Terry Briley indicated he was connected to the crime. When McGill was taken to the Bulloch County Jail, officers discovered he was also wanted on a probation warrant, Williams said. A "substantial amount" of the money was recovered and returned to the victim, he said.

Statesboro man believed to be dead after boating accident still not found

The search is ongoing for a Statesboro man believed to have been killed Saturday night in a boating accident in Lake Sinclair. Searchers were still looking Wednesday evening for Chris Thompson, 25, whose father-in-law Steven Lewis, 50, Adrian, was killed in the accident.

Black bear in Bulloch struck by car

A young male black bear struck by a vehicle on Langston Chapel Road Friday night died from its injuries, and authorities say the animal was likely just passing through the area in search of another bear population.
