Patrols, arrests deter burglaries

Burglaries around the Georgia Southern University campus during the Christmas holidays decreased significantly, compared to the high number of burglary incidents reported during the Thanksgiving holidays, Statesboro Police Chief Stan York said Tuesday.

Couple faces drug charges

After responding early Saturday to a call about a sick person at a local hotel, Statesboro Police arrested a couple on drug charges. Officers found a collection of street drugs as well as pain medications and sedatives, police reports stated.

A Portal man was arrested Monday on charges he raped a teenager Christmas Day. The 14-year-old victim's father learned of the alleged rape Dec. 30 and called authorities, said Bulloch County Sheriff Lynn Anderson.

Deal: Mother kidnaps own 5-year-old daughter

A Statesboro woman is behind bars without bond, charged with kidnapping her own 5-year-old daughter. Kimberly Jane Kennedy, 27, Metts Lane, was apprehended in Screven County Saturday after an alert was issued for the 5-year-old, of whom her grandparents had legal custody, said Bulloch County Sheriff's Investigator Walter Deal.
