Superintendent finalists announced

During a brief meeting Thursday, the Bulloch County Board of Education announced three finalists in the search for a school superintendent to replace Dr. Jessie Strickland, who retires in June.

The three candidates in the running for the position are Dr. Jose Gilberto Bosa Jr., executive director of Instructional Services with Clarke County School District; Dr. Lewis Dale Holloway Jr., the current Clark County school superintendent; and Dr. Michael Scott Winstead, director of curriculum and accountability with the Knox County, TN. school system.

Statesboro man dies in weekend boating accident

The Georgia Department of Natural Resources is investigating why two boats collided Friday night, leaving Statesboro's Charles Deal dead. Two men died and three people were injured in the boating accident on the Altamaha River in Glynn County. Deal, 67, was killed, along with another man, Ronnie Dan Metts, 33, of Hazlehurst.

Mother, daughter finish journey together

Bonnie Deal graduated from Georgia Southern University last week after a long college career. It took her a while to achieve her degree in special education because marriage and children interrupted her educational pursuits, but Deal, 55, went back to school after her children grew up and eventually attained her goal.

High-speed chase leaves Statesboro man in custody

A man fleeing from law enforcement Tuesday was intoxicated, according to reports. After a chase involving Georgia State Patrol troopers, a K-9 unit from Reidsville State Prison and a helicopter piloted by local businessman Ellis Wood, a Statesboro man was apprehended and arrested following a high-speed chase from Evans County into Bulloch County.
