Train derails in Millen

More than 20 railroad cars left the tracks Thursday in a train derailment near Millen. No one was hurt, but the Norfolk-Southern Railway had " a mess" to clean up, said Jenkins County Sheriff Tim Fields.

Cypres Lake fire investigators looking at 'person of interest'

Investigators say they have identified a "person of interest" in a fire that destroyed 260 acres of a dry lake bed earlier this month. Though no charges were filed in the Cypress Lake fire, a Register man was charged with a misdemeanor for " setting a fire within feet of suppression efforts" by firefighters battling the blaze.
