Public gets its say on tax increase

The Bulloch County Board of Commissioners will hold two hearings Tuesday and a third on Aug. 4 to allow input from citizens concerning a proposed increase in property taxes of 18.1 percent.

Home invasion suspects arrested

Two men suspected in a July 6 home invasion are now behind bars. Bulloch County Sheriff Lynn Anderson said the men ransacked the house on Bella Terra Road near Brooklet while an elderly couple hid in a locked bedroom during the robbery.

High speed chase driver 'combative'

A man who caused a four-car crash Wednesday evening in the Denmark community was combative when police arrested him and admitted to having been under the influence of drugs, said Brooklet police Chief Max Meyer.

21 arrested in drug sweep

An early-morning drug sweep in Portal Thursday led to more than 20 arrests, with more suspects expected to be taken into custody Friday. The sting, led by the Statesboro-Bulloch County Crime Suppression Team, began just before dawn when several patrol cars - marked and unmarked - joined wreckers and transport vans at Portal Middle High School on Highway 80 West around 5:30 a.m.
