Statesboro man dies in weekend boating accident

The Georgia Department of Natural Resources is investigating why two boats collided Friday night, leaving Statesboro's Charles Deal dead. Two men died and three people were injured in the boating accident on the Altamaha River in Glynn County. Deal, 67, was killed, along with another man, Ronnie Dan Metts, 33, of Hazlehurst.

After a chase involving Georgia State Patrol troopers, a K-9 unit from Reidsville State Prison and a helicopter piloted by local businessman Ellis Wood, a Statesboro man was apprehended and arrested following a high-speed chase from Evans County into Bulloch County.

UPDATE: Suspect arrested in bar beating

Statesboro police arrested a man Thursday evening charged in an aggravated assault incident which left another man in critical condition.Cpl. Justin Samples, spokesman for the Statesboro Police Department, could not confirm reports late Thursday night that Michael Gatto, 18, address unavailable, had died. He did confirm, however, that Grant James Spencer, 20, was taken into custody on charges of aggravated assault in connection to the attack that resulted in Gatto being transported to a Savannah hospital.
