Lots of 911 calls about snow, but no serious accidents

Statesboro Police had more calls about people throwing snowballs at cars Friday night than they had calls about snow-related accidents - which was a good thing.

Chance of up to 4 inches of snow Friday night

Forecasters upped the chance of snowfall in Bulloch County to a promising 90 percent after weather conditions changed Thursday. The Statesboro area could see up to four inches of snowfall by Saturday morning - enough that area children (and adults) would be able to make snowmen.

Those waiting around on snow to arrive Friday may have to stay up late, because the flakes aren't expected to fall until after 10 p.m. and won't be significant until after 1 a.m. Saturday - if they show up at all.

Suspects charged in copper wire theft at Julia P.

When Bryan County law enforcement officers went to a Pembroke-area home to serve warrants Thursday, they found two men burning insulation off a large amount of copper wiring. Suspicious, they contacted Statesboro Police, and detectives determined the wiring was stolen from the Statesboro area, said Statesboro Police Chief Stan York.

County Commissioner George Jackson passes

Bulloch County Commissioner and retired Georgia State Patrol Sergeant George T. Jackson, 57, died Sunday in Augusta due to complications stemming from a long illness. Friends and associates mourned Monday as they recalled his kindness, fairness and integrity.

More rain on the way

Everywhere you look, water is standing. Ditches overflow, pond banks are nonexistent, and some of Bulloch County's dirt roads are impassable. The El Nino weather pattern has made its presence known by the unusually excessive rainfall lately that has saturated the ground.
