Kathy Bradley: Eat seed and be merry

I have tried for years to feed birds. Hung all manner of feeders from stout branches and metal shepherd's crooks, tried seed mixture blended specially - or so the bag said - for the birds I've seen hanging out at Sandhill, crumbled up stale bread and sprinkled it on the grass in an effort to Hansel-and-Gretel-like show them the way. And, with the exception of hummingbirds, I have failed miserably.

Q: Our 4-year-old daughter will not eat dinner, no matter what. At most, she takes a few bites of what I fix and then says she doesn't like it. This has been going on for over a year. I've taken her favorite things away from, sent her to bed early, even spanked her. Nothing has worked, and to be honest, I'm getting increasingly frustrated. I absolutely refuse to fix her a special plate. I want her to be grateful for what she has. Please give me some direction here.
