50 percent more U.S. children went hungry in 2007

WASHINGTON - Some 691,000 children went hungry in America sometime in 2007, while close to one in eight Americans struggled to feed themselves adequately even before this year's sharp economic downtown, the Agriculture Department reported Monday.

Annual 'Nutcracker' returns to Averitt

"Nutcracker" lovers throughout southeast Georgia can once again join Clara on her holiday dream journey through the Land of Snow to the Kingdom of Sweets. Beginning Thursday, the Statesboro Youth Ballet will perform "The Nutcracker" at the Emma Kelly Theater through Sunday.

Holiday Festival of Trees begins Monday

The community is invited to the Festival of Trees, Georgia Southern University's new holiday celebration that begins Monday. A week-long wonderland of decorated trees, wreaths and gingerbread houses is put on by the Continuing Education Center in the Nessmith-Lane Continuing Education Building.
