In a frightening incident early Thursday morning, police said a woman narrowly escaped a potentially dangerous situation.
A kidnapping attempt by two men in a dark truck was thwarted when the woman pulled free from one man's grasp, Statesboro Police Chief Stan York said Friday.
The woman told Statesboro Police Officer Brian Jackson she was walking on South Main Street near Fastenal around 3 a.m. Thursday morning when " a dark, small pickup truck pulled beside her," York said.
The victim was not clear on the make or the color of the truck.
She told Jackson a black man in his mid-40's, standing about 5'10" and weighing around 200 pounds, exited the truck and tried to force her inside, he said. "She stated that after a brief struggle, she was able to free herself from his grasp."
The man who attacked her was a passenger in the truck, York said.
The woman described the truck's driver as a "white male in his early 50's," weighing around 250 pounds, with gray hair.
After the woman pulled free from her assailant, she fled and called police. Jackson met with the victim near the scene, he said.
The Statesboro Police Department Criminal Investigations Division is currently investigating the kidnapping attempt, he said. "Anyone with information is asked to contact Det. Keith Holloway at (912) 212-2306. Information received will be held in strictest confidence."
Citizens can also call (912) 764-9911 to reach the Statesboro Police Department.
