Southeast Bulloch's Grayson Wiggin's signed a letter-of-intent to play baseball at the University of Louisville for coach Dan McDonnell on Tuesday. Wiggins, a senior middle infielder, led the Yellow Jackets in batting average last season and is a top run producer in the SEB line-up.
"It's exciting," said Wiggins. "I've been working hard and it's finally paid off. I go up to Atlanta and play on the weekend's instead of hanging out with my friends, and I think it's paid off knowing I'll be getting a college education. That's the most important thing."
Friends and family joined Wiggins in the SEB Media Center to witness the signing, along with summer baseball coaches Shannon Snyder and Jimmy Haynes. Southeast coach Stephen Hoyle was also in attendance.
"(Grayson's) worked really hard and has dedicated himself," said Hoyle. "He's gone through a lot of summers putting in extra time at the ballfield and it's a credit to his family and Grayson to keep his grades up and keep clean to go to a Division I school."
Wiggins plays second base for the Yellow Jackets but will probably also see time at shortstop for the Cardinals, who finished 32-24 and 15-14 in Conference USA. The Cardinals will begin play in the Big East this season.
Coach Hoyle said Wiggins'  best asset is his work ethic.
"Anytime you have a kid that has a big heart like he does and works extremely hard, I think he's going to have a major impact for that program."
