Text Size: Small Large Medium
Statesboro Police responded to Statesboro High School Friday morning after school officials received a tip that a student  may have a weapon.
However, after searching and investigating, officers found no weapon, and no violence occurred, said Statesboro Police Chief Stan York.
Around 9 a.m., officers went to the school “ at the request of school administrators in reference to a possible weapon on campus,” he said. “A student had overheard a conversation between other students about causing damage or disrupting school.”
The student went to school officials to report what had been overheard, York said.
“A temporary administrative lock down of the campus was initiated and the Statesboro Police Department was called in to assist,” he said.
After no weapons or cause for worry was discovered, “school resumed the normal operating functions around 10 a.m.,” he said.
