Playing God not possible for humans

DEAR DR. GOTT: It is true that God alone is the author of all life and he alone must be allowed to end it. I think we are forgetting that right after death we must stand before God and give an account of our actions. Do we want, at that time, to be guilty of robbing God of his own power?
DEAR READER: I am not familiar with any part of the Bible stating that God alone must be allowed to end life. I'm interested primarily in relieving pain and suffering; length of life I leave to the Almighty. How can we even have the smallest success in "robbing God of his own power"? He is the creator and we will never fully understand the cosmos.
I remember a wonderful saying I heard years ago: We know less about life and the cosmos than an ant knows about the British museum.
Rather that bearing repeated messages, both Christian and other, about what God wants, expects or punishes with respect to death and palliative care, I welcome less faith and more reality from my readers, all of whom, like me, will sooner or later have to make life and death decisions. Now is the time to make our wishes known, before we are too weak, infirm or confused to make sound decisions. I think the higher power would agree with that approach. If He doesn't, well, we will address that issue in the future.

DEAR DR. GOTT: I enjoy reading your column and the no-flour, no-sugar diet interested me; however, would you explain why you may have fructose on this diet?
DEAR READER: Because I want to keep it simple. Fruit sugar (fructose) has the potential to satisfy a sweet tooth (unlike glucose, sucrose or corn syrup) without upsetting dietary alterations. It's easier for me and the dieters to say "no sugar" (cane, table, syrup and so forth) in preference to measuring caloric intake, weighing food and so forth.
For further information regarding the diet, including food lists, recipes and meal planners, I recommend my book "Dr. Gott's No Flour, No Sugar Diet." You can purchase the book through you local bookstore or directly from the publisher at 800-605-7176 or www.quilldriverbooks.com.
