A Brooklet man and his eight-year-old son were killed Thursday in a crash with an 18-wheeler.
Around 4:15 p.m., Warnell Sapp, 37, Cromley Road, Brooklet, was driving northbound on Nevils-Denmark Road approaching the intersection with Ga. 46 when he failed to yield to a stop sign and pulled into the pathway of a 1996 Freightliner driven by Anthony Lavon Wilkerson, 30, Hightower Road, Statesboro.
Wilkerson was traveling westbound on Ga. 46 and skidded 132 feet before crashing into the vehicle driven by Sapp. Then both vehicles traveled an additional 13 feet, exited the roadway, and came to an uncontrolled rest in the north ditch, according to preliminary Georgia State Patrol reports.
The vehicles came to a rest about 107 feet from the point of impact,  reports stated.
The eight-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene. Sapp was  transported to east Georgia Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, according to reports.
Wilkerson was not injured and no charges were filed, reports stated.
