Text Size: Small Large Medium
An argument on Christmas Day landed a Statesboro couple in jail after the altercation grew from a mere verbal disagreement into a physical struggle involving a knife.
Statesboro Police arrested a woman who stabbed her boyfriend Christmas Day. Although it was self-defense, the woman was charged with aggravated assault.
Statesboro Police Det. Kelphie Lundy said Brenda Gail Mims,46, Baldwin Street, was arguing with her boyfriend Myron Seth Williams, 33, Anthony Street Tuesday when the argument escalated into a physical altercation.
Williams was pushing Mims during a disagreement and was choking her as well, Lundy said. “She asked him to stop,” but he refused to do so.
That’s when Mims grabbed a knife and stabbed Williams beneath his left breast, he said.
The wounds were superficial and did not require hospitalization, he said.
Williams was charged with simple battery while Mims was charged with aggravated assault and possession of a knife during the commission of a crime, according to jail records. Neither had been issued a bond as of Wednesday evening, a jail spokesman said.
