Gators face up and down Windsor team

Bulloch Academy head football coach Clint Morgan just shook his head when he talked about tonight’s opponent, the Windsor Academy Knights
“It’s hard to figure them out,” he said. “It’s like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.”
The Knights (5-4 overall, 1-2 in the region) have played some tough opponents to virtual stalemates and then struggled to beat weaker teams. The Macon squad remains a mystery and Morgan doesn’t know which Windsor team will show up.
But he does know that the Knights are not the same team they were last season.
“They’re the most improved team, from last year to this year, that I’ve seen,” he said. “They have a very large team, numberwise. They two-platoon the whole game. It’s nice in this league to have numbers like that.”
Windsor’s 32-man roster contains some super athletes, says Morgan.
“But because they two-platoon, they sit on the sidelines half of the game,” he said. “I feel they would be more effective if they played their best 14 or 15 guys all the time.”
The Knights have amassed 2,203 total yards on offense (1,644 rushing and 559 passing) and have scored 170 points.
“As long as they are effective, Windsor will be in the Pro-I set,” said Morgan. “We will see a lot of misdirection, counter treys and traps. Kent Gibson (sophomore tailback) has very deceptive speed and can turn the corner on anybody. Their best overall athlete is Kent’s brother, Baron. He plays on the offensive line.”
Defensively, according to Morgan, the Knights will run a 4-4 with a lot of linebackers stunting and defensive linemen slanting. According to the team’s statistics, the Knights have a stingy defense which has limited opponents to 1,391 total yards (1,018 rushing, 373 passing) and 127 points.
“With that style of defense, they will have several big plays and hit us in the mouth,” said Morgan. “But we’ll also have the opportunity for a lot of big plays.”
Bulloch’s offense couldn’t get started last week on a slick, rain-soaked Trinity Christian field in Dublin. The Gators had just 70 yards of total offense while fighting both the footing and a smothering Crusader defense.
“I’m still wringing my clothes out from last week,” Morgan said with a grin. “I feel we’ll get back on track. They have a good defense but it’s not on the same page as Trinity’s.”
Senior tailback Trevor Darden leads the Gators with 863 yards and five touchdowns while junior quarterback Jordan Walker has 703 yards and seven scores. Walker also has completed 35-of-73 passes for 503 yards and six TDs. Ethan Lovett is Bulloch's leading receiver with 16 catches for 244 yards and five touchdowns.
Linebackers James Conner and Michael DeLoach lead the BA defense. Conner, a senior, leads with 65 solos and 44 assists while DeLoach, a sophomore, has 33 individuals and 38 assists. Rounding out the top five are junior cornerback Ethan Lovett (43, 25), junior defensive lineman Ben Newton (42, 23) and junior defensive end Drew Cheshire (31, 30).
Even though tonight’s Region 2-AA match-up has no playoff bearing for either team, the Gators are trying to wind up the season on a winning note.
“There are always positives to any negative situation,” said Morgan. “We are excited about playing two more football games. We’ve still got kids trying to earn All-Region positions. We’ve got two backs trying to reach the 1,000-yard mark. We’ve got a chance to have a winning season.”
