BA ends season with 41-24 victory over Memorial Day

Bulloch Academy and Memorial Day School quarterbacks combined to throw a whopping 64 passes in an almost three-hour football game Friday night which saw the Gators blast the Blue Thunder 41-24.

The game was never in doubt as BA had a commanding 35-6 lead midway through the third quarter. Bulloch quarterback Jordan Walker threw three first-half touchdowns and added a fourth in the third. The senior was 11-of-27 for 233 yards, giving him 1,115 yards for the season.

Bulloch’s defense grounded the Blue Thunder for the majority of the contest, holding Memorial to negative yardage in the first quarter. The Gators substituted freely late in the third quarter and Memorial took advantage of BA’s next generation by breaking some big plays late in the game.

Still, the contest was one for the Bulloch record books.

Walker’s four touchdown passes set a new single-season mark for aerial scores (17) and tied the single-game mark. He also set the single-game attempts mark with 27.

Gator receivers Ethan Lovett and Darion Carter also etched their names into Gator record book with touchdown catches. Carter’s two TD grabs set a new single-season mark for scoring receptions (9) and Lovett’s two set a new career mark for touchdown catches (12).

On the night, Lovett caught six balls for 120 yards while Carter had three for 81.

Bulloch (8-3) got on the board twice in the opening 12 minutes, albeit late in the quarterr. Walker connected with Carter on a 36-yard strike at the 2:13 mark and then a 20-yarder on the Gators’ next possession.

A defensive touchdown opened up the second quarter. Memorial quarterback Sal Sanchez, who was 15-of-28 for 267 yards, hit Colin Plummer in the flats. BA cornerback Taylor Burke put the wood to Plummer, making him cough up the ball on the MDS 45. Linebacker Michael Deloach alertly scooped up the pigskin and raced 55 yards for the score and a 21-0 lead.

After a Will Powell interception later in the quarter, Walker hit Will Powell on a 52-yard scoring strike for a 28-0 lead with 8:32 left before halftime.

Memorial (2-9) got on the board late in the half on Sanchez’s first touchdown pass, a 24-yarder to Antonio Proctor.

Walker connected on a score with Lovett again midway through the third on a one-yard toss with 7:36 left for a 35-6 lead.

After Sanchez hooked up with Proctor for a second time late in the quarter, BA reserve quarterback Brandon Walker scored his first career touchdown on a 61-yard option keeper to give Bulloch a 41-12 lead early in the fourth.
