A Claxton man was killed Friday when his vehicle left the roadway, struck a tree and caught fire.

Georgia State Patrol Trooper C. Palmer investigated the crash that took the life of Walter Belcher, 48, Sunbury Road. Claxton.

In initial reports, Palmer stated Belcher was traveling southbound Friday around 2:30 a.m. on Old Hwy. 250 two miles south of Daisy when he lost control of his car negotiating a curve.

The vehicle struck a tree and burst into flames. When first responders arrived, the vehicle and drier had been consumed by the fire, reports stated.
