Man shot in leg during Statesboro robbery attempt

A man shot Sunday night at The Lodge Apartments is recovering while police continue to seek information on the armed robbery attempt.

According to Statesboro police reports, officers responded around 7:20 p.m. Sunday to the Institute Street apartment complex and found the victim, Nicky Latrell Young, 38, of Institute Street, suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg.

Young told police "a male approached him and attempted to rob him at gunpoint," Officer Amanda Lane stated in reports. "... During the robbery, the suspect fired a gun, striking the victim in the leg."

Statesboro police Cpl. Justin Samples said Monday that Young is in "stable but serious" condition and investigators are waiting for him to recover further from effects of medication so they can continue to interview him about the shooting.

According to reports, Bulloch County EMS took Young to East Georgia Regional Medical Center for treatment.
