    Mr. and Mrs. Larry Joe Sconyers Sr. of Statesboro announce the engagement of their daughter, Layla Eileen Sconyers, to James Walter “Jim” Crawford, son of Lawrence Easterling Crawford Jr. of Douglas and Mary Beth Harrelson of Adel, Ga.
    The bride-elect is the granddaughter of the late James Roy Sconyers and Mary Alma Sconyers Chester of Statesboro and the late Mr. and Mrs. John Willie “Bill” Goodman of Metter. Layla is a 1995 honor graduate of Statesboro High School. She graduated with honors from Georgia Southern University in 1999 with a Bachelor of Science degree in biology and from the University of Georgia in 2003 with a doctorate degree in plant pathology from the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences. Layla is presently employed as an agricultural research scientist and consultant at Landis International, Inc. in Valdosta.
    The groom-elect is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Easterling Crawford Sr. of Lenox, Ga., and the late Mr. and Mrs. Paul McCullers O’Quinn of Adel, Ga. Jim is a 1990 honor graduate of Cook County High in Adel, Ga. He served from 1991 to 1995 in the United States Marine Corps. Jim graduated with honors from Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in 1998 with an associate’s degree in business administration. He continued his studies at Moultrie Technical College, where he graduated in 2000 with an associate’s degree in networking science. Jim is currently self-employed as a computer information technology consultant.
    The wedding has been planned for April 12, 2008, at Merrywood Baptist Church in Statesboro.
