    LYNCHBURG, Va. — Georgia Southern third baseman Garrett Chapman was named Second Team Freshman All-America by the National Collegiate Baseball Writer's Association on Monday.
    The award was the second for Chapman after an outstanding freshman season.
    Chapman was the first freshman Eagle since 1984 to lead the team in batting average and hit .341 in 59 starts in the infield. The freshman third baseman also hit seven doubles and eight home runs with 32 RBI.
    Chapman was also selected as a Freshman All-American by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper on June 4.
NCBWA selected a total of 32 standout freshmen to its 2014 Freshman All-American teams. The two teams feature players from 17 leagues and six conference championship teams including the Eagles, who won the 2014 Southern Conference Tournament Championship.
    The 2014 NCBWA National Freshman Player of the Year and National Freshman Pitcher of the Year will be announced on Tuesday, June 10.

Eagle football camps underway
    Eagle Invasion Football Evaluation Camps began on Monday in Atlanta at the Mt. Vernon Presbyterian School.
    First-year Georgia Southern Football Coach Willie Fritz and his staff have scheduled six total camps with a seventh set for July 18 in the newly expanded Paulson Stadium.
    Fritz and the GSU coaching staff direct the camps and provide college-level instruction with practices to emphasize the competitive physical and technical skills required for college student-athletes.         The camps are open to rising ninth-12th graders and the cost is $40 per camper, which includes an evaluation and a T-shirt.

4 Eagles named preseason All SBC
    BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Senior offensive lineman Garrett Frye and three Eagle defensive players, Jonathan Battle, Lennie Richardson and Deion Stanley were selected by the Lindy’s Sports Annual staff to the 2014 preseason all-Sun Belt second team.

SBCPRD football camp
    The Statesboro-Bulloch County Parks and Recreation Department will hold a youth football camp featuring Statesboro High and University of Georgia Hall of Famer Cassuis Osborn from June 16-19, at Luetta Moore Field.
    The camp, which runs from 12:30-5:30 p.m. each day, costs $65 per child. Children aged 7-14 are welcome to attend.
