Paul Metrejean

Paul Metrejean says the most rewarding things about being a professor at Georgia Southern University are the times when students fully understand the course material and when he sees former students succeed after college.
Metrejean, an associate professor in the accounting department, is originally from Louisiana.
“It was a fun place to grow up. We would go to the city quite often. I spent most of my summers at my grandparents' house,” he said.
For his bachelor’s degree, Metrejean attended the University of Southwestern Louisiana, now the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, where he began as a biology major.
“I loved biology in high school, and I also liked chemistry in high school. I got to college and realized I didn’t like chemistry anymore, so I decided to change my major,” he said. “Honestly, I had no idea what I wanted to do, so I was looking through the catalogue, and I came across accounting and I thought it was pretty neat. I gave it a try and fell in love with it.”
He says that while he enjoyed his undergraduate years, he was most excited about life after college.
“I met a lot of great friends, some I still keep up with,” he said. “The best part of college was finishing up and graduating.”
In his free time, Metrejean likes to be adventurous and travel with his family.
“We have a motor home, so we like to camp,” he said. “It’s not hard-core tent stuff. We get in the motor home, we pack it up, and we drive someplace for the weekend.”
