    SPARTANBURG, S.C. — Georgia Southern left its mark on the Southern Conference in its final outdoor track and field championship meet on Sunday with the record in the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 44.50 seconds.
    Junior Jasmin Walker was named both the Most Outstanding Track Performer and the Most Outstanding Athlete for the 2014 Championships. Walker won the Long Jump Saturday, was a member of the winning 4x100m Relay team and finished second in 100m and third in the 200m races.
    The Eagles' 4x100m Relay team, which broke the University record set in 2007, put up the time Sunday that currently ranks 12th in the nation and seventh in the East region. In addition to the national mark, four University records were broken Sunday, three champions crowned and 14 personal bests also set. The Eagles finished their run in the SoCon with a fifth-place finish overall.
The Eagles dominated in the 100m and 200m Dash events, taking spots two through five for 23 points in the 100m event and 18 points in the 200m.
    Georgia Southern begins competition in the Sun Belt Conference this fall.

Screven County returns to Elite 8
    SYLVANIA — For the 24th time in the last 25 years, the Screven County Lady Gamecocks are back in the Elite Eight of the state playoffs.
    The top-seeded Gamecocks knocked off Jeff Davis, 4-1, to advance to the quarterfinals of the GHSA Class AA playoffs on Monday at home.
    Mallorie Boswell won 6-0, 6-0 and Jancy Durrence won a second singles point, 6-1, 6-2.
    Both doubles teams — Pamela Wooten/Haley Jackson (6-3, 6-3) and Michaela Iwinski (6-2, 6-1) — won to seal the victory.
    Both the SCHS boys and girls teams will hgost the No. 1 seed out of Region 1-AA, Thomasville, on Wednesday at 2 p.m., for a trip to the semifinals.

    The Statesboro-Bulloch County Parks and Recreation
Department youth soccer leagues saw plenty of action over the weekend.
    In our under-12 league, the Kiwanis Club of Statesboro Cyclones tied with Galactic Comics & Games Rampage 3-3 and Kiwanis Club won the rematch, 4-0.
    In our under-10 league, the Rowdies beat the Terminators 2-1, the Howard Lumber & Hardware Timbers beat Kiwanis Club of Statesboro Fusion 1-0 and the Outlaws beat Lighthouse Outdoor Lighting Hurricanes 3-2.
