Charleston knocks off Eagles 5-3

College of Charleston pitcher Eric Bauer allowed three hits in 6.2 shutout innings and the Cougars evened the season series with a 5-3 win over the Georgia Southern Eagles on Wednesday at J.I. Clements Stadium.
The Cougars (28-13) got a two-run homer from  second baseman Gunnar Heidt in the fifth to pull ahead 3-0.
The Eagles (27-16) didn't get anything going until Bauer left with two outs and nobody on in the sixth. C.J. Brazil doubled off the first pitch from reliever Chase Henry, and Cal Baker drew a two-out walk.
Pinch hitter Hunter Thomas drove in both with a double.
Charleston answered in the top of the seventh with a pair of runs to get a 5-2 advantage, and a solo home run by GSU's Stryker Brown, his fifth of the season, was all the Eagles mustered in the bottom of the ninth.
GSU shortstop Dalton Busby left the game in the bottom of the fourth when he appeared to pull his hamstring — a nagging injury — while trying to beat out a ground ball at first base. He was replaced at the plate by Garren Palmer and in the field by Baker.
Eagles freshman Will Jackson (2-1) took the loss, pitching 3.1 innings and allowing five hits.
Jackson left in the fourth with a scorless tie and the bases loaded, but the first run of the game scored on an RBI fielder's choice.
