Fire consumes pickup truck, cabinets

A pickup truck hauling cabinets caught fire Tuesday afternoon, and the blaze quickly engulfed the vehicle.

Statesboro Fire Battalion Chief Derrel Melton said Statesboro firefighters responded around 12:20 p.m. Tuesday to a vacant lot between a monument company and convenience store on Northside Drive East across from Dairy Queen, where driver Walter Baker, name and address unavailable, pulled over when he noticed the flames.

The cause of the fire is unknown. The cabinets in the pickup truck bed, as well as the truck, were a total loss, Melton said. No injuries were reported.
