Eagles dismiss two from squad

Georgia Southern baseball players Will Middour and Aaron Palmer have been dismissed from the program, GSU head coach Rodney Hennon said on Tuesday.
Middour and Palmer, along with Josh Black and Garrett Chapman, were suspended for Saturday’s game against UNC Greensboro for a “violation of team rules,” Hennon said.
Black and Chapman returned for Sunday’s game against UNCG.
Middour, a senior pitcher, and Palmer, a freshman infielder, each served suspensions earlier in the season, prior to last weekend.
After the 2012 season, Middour had Tommy John surgery to repair the ulnar collateral ligament in his throwing arm and missed the 2013 season. He started seven games this season, and went 1-2 with a 5.95 earned run average.
Palmer, a second baseman, started 20 games after serving an earlier suspension and hit .306 with 6 RBIs.
Robbie Dodds, a senior outfielder who transferred to GSU from Spartanburg Methodist as a junior, left the team on Monday, a Georgia Southern official confirmed. His departure from the team was unrelated to the suspensions.
The Eagles (25-13, 8-7 Southern Conference) were scheduled to play Mercer on Tuesday at home, but the game was rained out.
A date to make up the game has not been set.
GSU will travel to College of Charleston (24-11) for a game today at 6 p.m.
Matt McCall (1-1, 4.50 ERA) will get a controlled start against the Cougars. He has yet to start a game but has appeared in 24 games and earned seven saves this season.
“We’re going to throw a lot of guys,” Hennon said. “McCall will start but out plan is to staff it, get a lot of guys out there.”
The Eagles will return home for a three-game series against Samford over the weekend, with a 6 p.m., first pitch scheduled for Friday.
