Market District bringing prosperity to Statesboro

Editor:

Twelve years ago, a group of Statesboro businessmen formed the Market District, LLC, for the purpose of developing an 80-acre tract of land adjacent to the newly-constructed East Georgia Regional Medical Center. The group believed in the economic potential of Statesboro and has been successful in attracting $47,500,000 in investment into the area with the potential to almost double that in the near future. The development has brought retail services, medical and professional offices, banking, restaurants, residential and lodging to the area. These services, along with the jobs and tax revenue to the city and county, benefit the entire community.

Far too often the general population is unaware of the tremendous amount of work and cooperation necessary to facilitate such a successful development. We would like to take the opportunity to thank Mayor Jan Moore, former Mayor Joe Brannen, the Statesboro City Council, city manager and departmental staffs for their untiring efforts in supporting the city's economic development. In particular, we wish to thank City Planner Mandy Cody and Engineer Robert Cheshire for their efforts to both protect the citizens from undisciplined growth and willingness to provide a business-friendly atmosphere during the developmental process. You are all part of the reason Statesboro and Bulloch County is such a great place to live and work.
