    SAVANNAH — The Portal Panthers (7-8, 3-7 Region 3-A) ended region play in style on Friday. , hammering Savannah Country Day 13-1 in five innings.
    Cole Busby pitched three innings and earned the win, and Brett Howell finished out the game on the mound.
    Hector Diaz had a big day at the plate, driving in three runs on a pair of hits. He also scored twice. Parker Parrish, Chase Kirkland and Evan Street each drove in two runs for the Panthers.
    Portal faces Jenkins County on Tuesday.

SCHS wins a pair
    SAVANNAH — The Screven County Lady Gamecocks beat Brantley County (3-2) and St. Vincents  (4-1) to open play at the Coastal Empire Tennis Classic on Friday at Bacon Park in Savannah.
    Mallori Boswell, Jancy Durrence and doubles team Pamela Wooten and Haley Jackson each went 2-0 on the dayh, and doubles pair Michaela Iwinski and Allie Bazemore split the day with a win and a loss.
    The match against Brantley came down to Wooten and Jackson, who won a 7-1 tiebreaker in the second game and closed out the final set 10-7.
    The Lady Gamecocks (14-1) advanced to the championship rounds, which will take place today.
    The boys team (6-9) lost to Benedictine 3-2 and to Brantley County 5-0.
    Ryan Bazemore won a singles match against Benedictine, and Zachary Weaver and James WOods won in doubles. The Gamecocks will close the tournament in the consolation bracket today.

Eagles take lead at FAU
    LAKE WORTH, Fla. — Hayden Anderson shot a 3-under, 68, four Eagles are in the top-5 and Georgia Southern is leading the FAU Slomin Center Invitational after the first round of action at The Fountains Country Club Friday.
    Georgia Southern fired a 6-under-par 278 as a team and is seven strokes ahead of second-place Central Florida (+1). Middle Tennessee State (+9) and Jacksonville State are tied for third.
