MILLEN — The Statesboro High School JROTC Drill Team competed against  Area 9 at the last practice meet of the season on Saturday in Jenkins County.
Some notable mentions are the Female Unarmed Squad, Male Armed Platoon, and cadets who placed in knockout drill.
The Female Unarmed Squad, led by Semeria Jones, earned first place in the Female Unarmed Squad event.
John Page led the Male Armed Platoon to first place in that event. The last event, knockout drill, is an individual drill event in which cadets are removed or “knocked out” by incorrectly performing commands.
Demarka Smith earned fourth place in knockout, with fellow cadet Orlando Youmans earning first place.
“We are like a close-knit family. When we go to the Regions meet, I’d like to see us win first place in everything," said SHS Cadet Erin Holloway, who leads the Female Unarmed Platoon.
That is not a long shot, considering how well the Drill Devils performed at the Jenkins meet. However, the SHS drill team must still triumph over the Southeast Bulloch drill team, which has been the team to beat all season. In order to do that, the drill team will focus more on the little things and perfect their art. The SHS Blue Devils travel to the Area 9 Region Championships in Metter on March 29.
