Statesboro man arrested on aggravated assault and shoplifting charges

As if shoplifting charges weren't enough, police said a Statesboro man fled store employees and ran through the local mall brandishing a knife Monday evening, causing police to add charges of aggravated assault to his arrest record.
Belk employees detained James Darryllon Mosley, 39, Martin Luther King Boulevard, for shoplifting a felony amount of items, according to Statesboro Police reports.
He tried to leave the store with two pairs of pants, three knit tops, a denim clothing item, a set of glass drinkware and a piece of crystal giftware with a total value of about $378, according to an incident report by Statesboro Police Cpl. Randal Powell.
Officer responded to the department store at the Statesboro Mall around 7:15 p.m. Monday, where Belk loss prevention officers had Mosely in custody. However, he escaped from the store employees and ran, Powell said.
Mosely, in handcuffs, " ... was running toward the front of the mall brandishing a knife," he stated.
But when officers arrived and confronted Mosely, he gave up. "He dropped the knife on command," he said.
Mosely was arrested without incident and taken to the Bulloch County Jail, where he was booked on charges of felony shoplifting and aggravated assault.
While the police report listed no injuries, four people were listed as victims in the incident.
