Truck strikes deer, ends up in pond

The weather was cold and rainy Thursday, but that's not the reason law enforcement found a Twin City man soaked and chilled, needing rescue.

George Archer, 62, struck a deer Thursday afternoon and then lost control of his truck, running into a pond near Portal.

Around 1 p.m. Thursday, Georgia State Patrol troopers and Bulloch County sheriff's deputies responded to calls and found Archer standing on top of his 2013 Ford F-150, which was partially submerged in about 5 feet of water, said GSP Trooper 1st Class Blake Hendrix.

Archer told troopers he struck a deer between two ponds on U.S. Highway 80 west of Portal, near Pleasant Hill Church Road. While wet and cold in the chilly, rainy weather, Archer was not injured, Hendrix said.
