First Friday returns this month in all its green glory.
Green takes center stage, with green grits, green popcorn, green drinks and more, on the Bulloch County Courthouse lawn. It takes place from 5:30-8 p.m. Friday.
“Green Grits” is Statesboro’s St. Patrick’s Day-themed event. A wide selection of green foods and drinks will be available, as well as those famous green grits provided by Freeman’s Mill.
Children are encouraged to participate in a variety of fun events.
“It’s a great way to get the kids out of the house and downtown for family time and fun games,” said Allen Muldrew, the executive director of the Downtown Statesboro Development Authority.
Events will include miniature golf provided by The Clubhouse of Statesboro and Statesboro Floor Covering. The Georgia Southern Dance Team will perform to help it raise money to attend a national dance competition as well as contribute to its yearly community participation.
In celebration of all things green – and not just the color – GSU’s Center for Sustainability will supply recycled bags for children to decorate and provide information on how to live a sustainable lifestyle.
Vendors will display handmade crafts and host other fun activities.
And don’t forget the downtown businesses, which will have their own green treats available.
“I love to see all of the new spring inventory and specials in our downtown shops. It’s going to be great,” said Elena McLendon, the DSDA’s office manager.
