Randy Morton was named regional director of strategic multimedia initiatives for Morris Newspaper Corporation in Southeast Georgia and Southern California, Morris Multimedia CEO Charles H. Morris announced Thursday.

Morton took over as publisher/executive producer of Signal Multimedia in Santa Clarita, Calif., in February 2012, and will return to Statesboro to assume his new duties.

His position will focus on managing initiatives to help grow revenue and audience in Morris Newspaper Corporation's multimedia operations, while working in conjunction with each region's print businesses.

"These efforts will focus on helping our company improve our existing products as well as develop new ways to connect consumers and businesses," Morris said.

Morton will continue to oversee Signal Multimedia in Santa Clarita, as the company's Southern California regional manager. Russ Briley was named publisher of Signal Multimedia and will report to Morton.

"Randy's experience during the past two years in California has further broadened his abilities to help our company test some new growth ideas," Morris said. "He has been a progressive change leader throughout his career."

Morton was publisher of the Statesboro Herald prior to moving to California. He and his wife Patricia are both Bulloch County natives and hold master's degrees from Georgia Southern University.

"I appreciate the opportunities Mr. Morris has given me over the years," Morton said. "Trish and I look forward to reconnecting with family and friends in southeast Georgia."

His new assignment takes effect Saturday.
