Former Georgia Southern fullback Dominique Swope was released Thursday from the Bulloch County Jail on a $25,000 bond.

Swope was arrested Feb. 18, after a warrant was issued for his arrest, for his involvement in a Feb. 9 altercation at the Cambridge at Southern apartment complex on Lanier Drive, which resulted in Cameron Zaquan Lewis, 19, of Lanier Drive, suffering “serious head trauma,” according to Statesboro Public Safety Director Wendell Turner.

Lewis, also a former GSU player, was taken by EMS to East Georgia Regional Medical Center. Lewis was later flown by helicopter to Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah because of brain hemorrhaging and swelling, police reports indicate.

As of Wednesday, Lewis was no longer being treated at Memorial, according to a hospital spokesperson. No other information was available.

Swope was removed from the team after the arrest.

Georgia Southern's director of sports information, Barrett Gilham, said in an email that, “(Swope’s) return to the team will be determined once he goes through the legal process and there is a better understanding of his involvement with this incident from a legal perspective.”

At the time of the statement on Feb. 19, Swope was being held without bond.

Swope was charged with aggravated battery.
